The Organic Swap That Surprised Me Most

    By Jo Wood··1 min read

When people think about going organic, they think about food first. That was my starting point too. But over the years the swap that genuinely surprised me the most, the one where I felt a difference almost immediately, was my bedding.

I know. It sounds like an odd one. But when you think about it, you spend eight hours a night with your face pressed into your pillowcase. If that pillowcase is made from conventionally grown cotton, which is one of the most pesticide-heavy crops in the world, those chemicals are against your skin all night, every night. Your skin is absorbing them while you sleep.

I switched to organic cotton bedding and within about two weeks my skin felt calmer. Less reactive. I'd had patches of sensitivity around my face for years that I'd always put down to other things. They cleared up.

Organic cotton bedding is more widely available now and the price difference isn't as dramatic as it used to be. Companies like The Ethical Bedding Company do a great range. It's not the first swap most people think of, which is exactly why I wanted to mention it here.

Your home is your body's environment just as much as your food is. What you sleep in, sit on, and breathe in matters. Start with the thing you spend the most time touching.
